The “mysterious” Ruger Mark III fieldstripped…
This is my Mark III “target” pistol with the bull barrel. Those familiar
with the Ruger "Mark" pistols know they are different from most other
semi-auto pistols in that there is no slide and that there is no
receiver in the usual sense, either.
The top piece is the barrel, with an adjustable rear sight on top to the
left and a fixed but removable front sight at the right. At the moment,
the standard sights are installed, but I have a Hi-Viz front sight for
the pistol.
The bolt assembly is under the barrel to the left. To the right of it is
the “infamous” mainspring housing assembly. Unless you’ve seen it done,
in person or in a video, you’d probably never get it back into the
pistol, but once you know how, it’s pretty easy. I can reassemble this
pistol in less than a minute, as can most other owners of "Mark" pistols
who have taken them down this far and farther.
The last major piece is simply called the grip frame. On most other
pistols, it would be the serial numbered receiver. But there is no
serial number on the grip frame. On these pistols, the serial number is
on the barrel.
Really nice pistols, all of them, and Ruger offers many different
models. I don't think you can beat them for reliability or accuracy at
the price.
