Yes, we were afraid the North would turn it's attention to us after defeating the South.

Only trouble is... the new confederation was tilted in favour of Ontario and Quebec and Nova Scotia quickly dropped from probably the richest province to a poor cousin after it's normal trading partners in the Boston States disappeared.

The flaw in this story is summed up by a line near the end

"Once the war ended, the priority for Americans was reconstruction,
not expansion."

The US was very interested in expansion, they just went west instead
of north.


Weather-wise Massachusetts is as far north as I'd ever want to be and
it's quickly losing it's appeal.
