Tanks???
Where are the tanks? You've been snookered by the press.
I think he means APC's...
I agree that these do not meet the military definition of a tank but
they are certainly more than a local police force needs and when they
mount crew served guns on them they start approaching the tank
category.
Ft Myers just bought an MRAP (for less than the scrap value of the
steel)
I was not even aware of the big "mine" problem in our streets.
They tried to make the case that this would be cheaper to maintain
than their old armored vehicle but this is still a proprietary DoD
vehicle and they will be buying parts from the same military vendors
who sell is $600 toilet seats.
BTW in the 20 years that they had the old armored vehicle, I don't
remember one single incident that actually required armor.
It is just a float in the Edison Pageant of Light parade.
The MRAP will make a better float. Don't you think the police are aware
of their own budget? Ft Meyers paid $3500 for theirs. Most are free,
so maybe its got low miles. That's about the cost of a 1998 Chevy.
The Feds paid about $500,000
If it is too expensive to maintain, it'll be scrapped.
Here's some info.
