I got a much dreaded email yesterday from my brother in NC. He's been a heavy smoker since high
school and was diagnosed with lung cancer a few weeks ago. He didn't say what stage it was, only
that he's doing chemo twice a week and radiation every day. He knows he won't be able to go on the
Arkansas motorcycle trip 'cause he's already feeling pretty weak. The lung cancer was spotted while
he was recuperating from a bladder removal.
That sucks.
Yes, does suck. My cousin is recovering from throat cancer treatment. Same deal, smoked all his life. I don't get it myself. It was pretty clear 20 years ago when I quit smoking that it was not worth it. These days it's not even socially acceptable. Question is, has he quit smoking now?
Yeah, he quit in mid-January. But there's no telling how long he's been carrying this stuff around.
He didn't say what stage he was in, but he was doing a lot of coughing last time I was down there
(last fall). I just called him to find out what stage the cancer is. It's 3A. Now to go see what the
hell that means.
