Aluminium clips on Kayaks.
 

My tow system uses an aluminium snap clip that coroded and no longer is
functional.
Anyone else have this problem?

Yep I did, but that can be solved by moving it a couple of times untill
it moves smoothly again, and then using a bit of oil to lubricate it...
If it's corroded too much, it's time to replace it, of course.

For me, going out into the sea to surf usually causes the carabiners to
corrode a bit. Being on a river, it can take a long time, but eventually
they do corrode...

Yep! The biners holding my air bags in my creeker must be oiled every now
and then or they do indeed semi seize, or get corroded.

My spin on this is it should not happen. I have replaced them with
Stainless Marine biners that so far are perfect. I am working at
abusing them to see how it plays out and if the solution is that
simple. So far it seems to be. I am reluctant to put any oil based
lubricants any place Latex or any thin plastic may come in contact with
it.

Trying not to play with peoples heads , I am the original poster. My
daughter left her news group account open and I never checked for a
couple of days. OOPS.

I am aslo checking out some brass options. There is a plastic water ski
tow system that has a quick release I am interested in looking at. I
have not gotton my hands on that device yet.
I will post my findings on this group and promise not to pattent them.

Salt water hates aluminum, The Canoe tow stuff uses the same biners and
never sees salt. It is fine. Its just the ocean.

I have been diracted to a product called Fluid Film. It is a non
petrolium based lubricant that is harmless to latex..
That may be an answer too.
The stainless biners are fine and will stay , but a hit with fluid film
a couple of times a year looks like it will do the job.
