Hi There

I'm trying to test the operation of an Evinrude 25HP outboard.
The boat is not in the water, presumably I need a tank to test it?
How big would the tank need to be? Any tips or tricks?

Thanks guys

I had a 40 HP Johnson which fitted nicely into a dustbin. Engine on
Shetland, 'dangling' into the dustbin filled with water to the correct
depth. Keep an eye on splash, keep the revs low and keep topping up if
required with a hose pipe.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, because you are crunchy and
taste good with ketchup.

The only thing you can test in the "dustbin" is that it starts and idles OK.
Overheats - ignition problems - and full power problems probably won't show
up. Outboard "test tanks" are specially constructed unit that allow extended
full throttle tests. The other option is to find a "floating boat tied to a
strong pier" to do your test.

and if indoors in a workshop, has an extractor fan to take away exhaust
fumes and a method of keeping the water clean via filters etc etc etc. I
don't somehow think the original poster quite had this in mind :-))

which again is not exactly all that easy to find if you are a DIYer :-))

Why not use a pair of 'Muffs', these fit like earphones over the water inlet
and have an inlet for your garden hose, also useful for flusing out cooling
system after use.
