Tow belt problems

NRS and other kayak equipment manufacturers make tow belts but
incorporate Aluminiun Climbing Beeners into the mix.
We that play on salt water soon realize Aluminium and The Sea are a bad
mix.
I have two tow systems purchased in the last 12 months, both with
seized beeners after being laeft wet in the car for a couple of weeks.
NRC is sending this to their R & D department.
My R & D went to a ships chandler and picked up a stainless beener for
about 3 quid. Brass is available as is a nylon water sliing clip. These
options do not rust, oxidize or seize like the lump of white stuff I
just took off my tow system.
Does anyone else have this issue: And why are kayaking companies tying
this rubish into an otherwise fine product?

Proudly Modest was an error. This is Alex McGruer.

The biners have been replaced witrh stainless ones and have had lots of
exposure to the sea and neglect. They seem fine.

On another news group I was told about Fluid Film , a spray lubricant.
I had some for work and tested it against Latex for signs of
deterioration. It did not hurt the latex.
If this can be used once or twice a year and the Aluminum Biners are
fine I may be able to reuse the biners . The stainles ones will be
staying on the boat but I am glad there is a solution that does not
ruin fabrics and latex.

Hope this helps some one.

Separate. Rinse. Repeat.

Alternatively, enjoy your new one-piece paddle.
