Slovenia

Has anyone got any good information on paddling in Slovenia? We were
going to go to French Alps but are now changing our plans. Any idea how
we could find out what the current river levels are like?

I have paddled there - years ago.

In case it is of any use, we camped at "Kayak Camp Tony" (or Toni?) near
Bovec. It's at the confluence of the Soca and Koritnica.

The campsite was about the only place where we were charged western European
prices, but it is a good site, and convenient. Since they specialise in
kayakers, they might be able to help with water levels.

The second language there seems to be German. (I assume you don't speak
Slovenian?)

Huge numbers of Germans kayak there, so I'd try German web sites for
information.

We paddled the Soca - the section including the canyon, which is fun. It was
late May, and the river levels had already dropped. We paddled the Koritnica
- boney and technical. We paddled the Radovna, further south. After 4 miles
of grade 1, with weirs of about 3-4 metres drop, we came to a gorge, with a
catwalk along the side. This contains grade 4 and 5 drops, followed by a
totally unrunnable waterfall.

A great trip. Cheap food and drink. Clean rivers.

Go for it.
