Kayaks and Dogs

I'm looking to get a dog and one of the prerequisites is that it be
small enough to be able to ride on my kayak. I currently own a CD
Storm, but have a QCC Q700X on the way. I do a lot of kayak camping so
I'm usually pretty loaded with gear.
Can anyone suggest a maximum weight limit when choosing a dog?
