Canoe Rowing

Has anyone rowed a canoe - I am looking at the Piantedosi drop in rowing
rig.

I don't think the hull form of a typical canoe would be conducive to rowing. If
you want to row, and like the looks of a canoe, get an Adirondack Guideboat:

Yep. Had a drop in thing. It worked fine until my Old Town oar blew
up and some of the operating parts of the oarlock went to the river
bottom. I finished the weekend paddling. While it worked, I enjoyed
it and made good speed.

I made up a rig for my old stripper and used some oars that have been
in the family for years. It went like stink.
It was fun but the oars turned the great canoe into a mediocre row boat
and a useless rowing skull. It ws fun and good in wind though.
I would do it again but I kayak now and if you want to go fast, turn on
a dime, handle rough seas; kayaking will likely serve you better that
oars.
