sea kayaking in S/E asia

Hello!

I'm currently thinking about kayaking somewhere in south east/ east
asia during my spring vacation (i'm studying in kyoto, japan, and will
have a 2 month vacation soon).

Does anyone know of touring operators in thailand/malaysia/ okinawa
etc.?

The only one I've been able to find (apart from those using sit-on-top
kayaks, of course) is www.paddleasia.com.

Their programme sound intriguing, but 800 us$ sounds quite steep for 8
days of kayaking. Does anyone know if it _is_ steep by regular
standards or if i'm just naive concerning the costs for guide's etc?

If anyone's got tips, recommendations etc., I'd be happy to hear them!

Happy Kayaking

Gustaf

I'm not familiar with SE Asia, but I did notice that Ecomarine in
Vancouver is running a Thailand kayaking trip:

They have been recommended to me as a very high quality kayaking
company.

Mm, I don't know, the last couple of guided kayak trips I've taken in
British Columbia were more like US$800 for six days, and that was a
lower price than most. So I don't think the paddleasia trip sounds too
steep. A lot depends on what services they include. Are guests
expected to help with camp chores, cooking etc., or is all that
handled by the guide service?

Happy kayaking to you too!

Thanks for the reply!
I looked up Ecomarine, but their dates don't fit me, unfortunately.

However, after hearing what you said about other gudied trips, i
realised that i wasn't getting such a bad deal, after all. Everything
is included, and sleeping is done in bungalows, so i'll probably take
this trip..

Thanks for your help!

Gustaf
