getting into an inflatable
Does anyone have an opinion about the best way to climb in to an
inflatable kayak? I've used my Stearns IK116 about a half-dozen times now, and I'm fortunate to have a splash deck with a zipper. This allows me to step into the kayak in relatively shallow water and then zip up. But sometimes the shoreline drops off too quickly to climb aboard in the shallows. If I try to climb aboard in deeper water, the middle part of the canoe sinks and I take on water, weighing down the kayak until it bails. Other times the shallow shoreline is slippery from a coating of algae--I end up placing a portion of the boat on dry land, then I use my butt to "scooch" the kayak off the shore. Tips? |
