In the early 70's a sailing ship named Fennia ex-Champigny was moved from the Falklands as i remember with repairs being done at Rio before its long haul around to San Francisco(?) there appears to be no info available on this and wondered as to her fate, did she ever reach San Francisco or was she scrapped?, regards, Terry |

I think her history is described he http://pc-78-120.udac.se:8001/WWW/Nautica/Ships/Fourmast_ships/Champigny(190 2).html If this is the latest info, she would be towed to Montevideo since 1967. I love to do research in the internet - I always remember how hard it was before it came up. hth, Jan |

Hi, Terence, do You mean this ship ? http://www.kolumbus.fi/jamikko/Purje...0Champigny.htm (it is finnish, but has some good pics !) That is her most probably, she was one of the French Bordes shipping co's 4 masted barques in the early 1900's and named Champigny but had her name changed when she was sold to new owners, last I heard was years ago she had been towed out of the Falkland Islands headed for San Francisco but never heard if she made it. I think her history is described he http://pc-78-120.udac.se:8001/WWW/Nautica/Ships/Fourmast_ships/Champigny(190 2).html Ahh, this is Lars Bruselius' site, never thought to look at it but if anyone has her fate recorded it will be here. I love to do research in the internet - I always remember how hard it was before it came up. I only go into research when it is a case of having to, at present I am looking for photos of another French Bordes vessel L'Loire, 4 masted barque built 1895 and scrapped 1924, I have the plans for her on the way from Musee de la Marine in Paris and if they are suitable will build a 1/96 scale model of her later, regards, Terry P.S this list used to be quite busy, what happened to it?. |
