RMS Leinster - 90th anniversary
My wife and I were in Dun Laoghaire on Friday, 10th October, for the 90th anniverary commemoration service for the RMS Leinster disaster. The RMS Leinster whilst enroute Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead, on 10th October 1918, was attacked and sunk by torpedoes from UB123. It was the greatest ever loss of life on the Irish Sea. My wife's father was a soldier on board the Leinster in transit to World War 1 in France. He survived the sinking and although a poor swimmer he clung to wreckage until rescued the following day, 11th October 1918, which was also his birthday. The story of the RMS Leinster: http://www.rmsleinster.com/ Photos: 1. Part of parade to memorial 2. Mayor of Dun Laoghaire laying wreath. 3. My wife at RMS Leinster Memorial - incorporating the starboard anchor of the ship. Regards, Tuppence |

Mine is the sunburned one who appears on a lot of my posts, especially in the scenic group Keith |

Very impressive Tuppence, I never heard of this disaster, on the other hand, you cannot know everything. -- Greetings Bouler (The Netherlands) |
