The scientists are starting to speculate that the ship actually hit a
rock and not an iceburg tongue. The are commenting that the damage appears to be under the ship and that the chances of a tongue of ice actually being attached to an iceburg and yet able to get under a ship are very slim. The also talked about poor maps and navigational aids in that area and the possibility of shallow rocky areas. |

schreef in bericht ... For some good explanations of the why and how she sank read the comment in this thread from the WoodenBoat Forum. Those by Mike Mason and John Hardemann both NA's.. Blast I left out the URL! Mea Culpa. http://www.woodenboatvb.com/vbulleti...ad.php?t=72339 Thanks Dave, impressive, the only thing that made me feel bad was, nobody spoke about passengers;-( On the other hand a couple of nono's who only wanted their name shown, and thanks god a couple of people who used their brains and had expierience and knowledge of ships. It's always difficult to find out who's the Good, the Bad or the Ugly. The last thing I heard was that the ship was not hit by an iceberg but by a rock under water. Most importent thing to me is that all people are rescued, maybe with help of the calm weather, but so what, it was a hell of a job and I'm proud of all the people that made this story to a good ending for the passengers and the crew. -- Groeten Bouler (The Netherlands) |
