Genny and I took a short vacation down at Ft. Madison, IA, this week. We went
there to catch the many trains that run through there. But we also enjoyed the additional bonus of the river traffic. The bridge spanning the Mississippi River is a double-decker. The lower deck carries the BNSF across, while the upper deck is a highway bridge. On the Illinois side it's Highway 9, and on the Iowa side it's Highway 2. The toll booths are on the Illinois side. The Santa Fe Swing Span Bridge was built in 1927 with a 525-foot swing span. This bridge is the longest double-decker swing span bridge in the world.
