The first saltie of the 2011 season is upbound under Welland Canal
Bridge 21 in Port Colborne Ontario on March 21 2011. Those aren't missiles but rather blades for wind turbines that will be unloaded in Burns Harbor Indiana. Steve |

I've seen that ship in Maine.
They unload the blades in Searsport, Maine and truck them to Stetson Mountain http://www.stetsonwind.com/stetson/ They have to truck them to Houlton, Maine then south to Stetson Mountain. This is way out of the way. There's a turn in Lincoln, Maine that the trucks can't make. Mark |

According to a press release repeated on boatnerd.com, those blades
are headed to a Horizon Wind Energy windmill farm in Payne, Ohio. The blades are from Vestas, a Danish wind turbine manufacturing company. There are two more ships headed to Burns Harbor with more blades. One is the Aragonburg which is currently in Lake Ontario approaching the Welland Canal. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to see this ship. Once unloaded, the Avonborg is expected to load corn & barley in Hamilton Ontario to be taken to Puerto Rico. It's fascinating what some of these ships carry, and where they go. Steve |

Mars Hill Mountain, Maine.
This is about 25 miles from my home town. This wind project divided the town. They are very loud. I could hear the blades cutting through the air, there's a noise from the generator and the wind blowing around the pole is wicked loud. They also throw ice. Mark |
