Mr. Nicegye,
Cool looking boat.
The Mafia MF'er is right about labor and parts costs just to rebuild a stock
motor. Another option would be what we used to call a "Target engine".
These are either new or remanufactureed marine engines that are almost a
straight across swap. You would use parts from the old motor such as the intake
manifold and carb, distributor, starter ans alternator. If you have any
mechanical apptitude, you could possibly do the work yourself. Even if you had
to hier the engine swap done, you may come out ahead in the end.
Here is a link to a place that sells just such engines in assorted
horsepower.
Call them, and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.

Good luck with it. Let us know how it comes out.

Jasper can supply replacement for approx $2300-2500 w/exchange depending

on
model.

FYI,

Looks like a fun project. Sidewinder was quite popular in late '70's

early
80's in upper Midwest. Shallow V with pad bottom very similar to
Hydrostream and smaller Checkmates. Made a decent ski/lake racer. If I
remember correctly, a black one was used in one of the Roger Moore "James
Bond" movies (can't remember the name, but it was set in Louisiana

bayous).

The movie was "Live and Let Die", from 1973. This was the first Bond movie
to star Roger Moore in the role of James Bond. Generally regarded as one of
the worst of the entire series, although I liked it primarily for the
boating scenes. Glastron supplied all the boats to the film. The boat that
was used in the famous jump scene was a GT 150. In 1973, I would have given
my left nut to own a Glastron-Carlson CV-21.

Doing the job yourself, should be $600-$1000. A tired engine, would need
new rings and bearings and a valve job. Maybe a valve or two.
bill

Well, maybe you pay more for parts. Is maybe because you are dumb as grass,
a little dumber than a chicken. Is this JimDummy again. Geeze, it's a
tired engine not a broken engine. 250 for valve job, 125 for gaskets and
rings and bearings are not going to set you back much more than 200. When
you can get a rebuilt longblock shipped to you for 1200-1500 and that
includes labor. Spend some money on getting an education! Captain, My ass!
Maybe of the SS Minnow.

Hey Fred Sanford, You get what you ****ing pay for jackass! I am sure
your machine work and valve jobs are done by the ghetto's finest but
that still wouldn't end up in my boat or car. Maybe be good enough
for your down sydrome ****ing mind. Your thinking is cheaper is
better......Guess what **** face that isn't the case. Your a real
highminded ****. Take your ****ing butcher rebuilds and shove them up
your ass you ****ing stinking black *******! The racing world has no
room for ****ing goofy ****ing *******s like you. Find another site
in here. Maybe you can start your own
Lowbudget.Ghetto.Engine.Rebuilds. I think that is more fitting your
your train of thought. As a great man in here once
said.............Fist yourself!!!
