I don't know the details, but there *was* a civilian service doing exactly
that during the Vietnam war.

It was the DIA, run at that time by Gen. Joe Carroll, the guy for whom I
worked. For a period of time, my job was to help locate KIAs and some
MIAs. We didn't pick up bodies. We located them. This was not the
civilian job for which I was recruited, but that job was eliminated.

BUT, according to Harry, he was hired directly by a general. That
didn't happen!

Harry is so far into Fantasyland that he is incapable of recognizing
reality. He'll be telling us he goes boating with Steamboat Willie
next. it is possible that he may know something about boats but his
connection with the real world is too tenuous to tell if he ever makes
sense.

What is funny (in a sick sort of way) is when Harry whines about you
taking "a rowboat to the Bahamas", while in the same lying breath,
claiming that his father took a runabout across the Atlantic and
back!!!!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, and I could be, it was a civilian department op
for the DIA directed by the DoD for some kind of intelligence ops.

I never heard of them either until 1970 or thereabouts when I ran into
a high school buddy who graduated a few years ahead of me - he worked
for the Defense Intelligence Agency and worked out of Saigon.

From what he told me, part of their intelligence work was to locate
MIAs and KIAs for recovery. Couldn't prove it by me, but he obviously
knew the area we operated in and was fairly conversant with the ops
that we carried off.

Like I said - dunno. Not saying Harry was involved in it or not, but
I know, if only because this guy had no reason to fabricate a story,
that it sounded true.
