Further, I don't shoot at 200 or 300 yards. I shoot pistols and can
offhand a full magazine from my 9 mm SIG into a very very small
circle at 25 yards, the "standard" pistol distance.

So can I, and I did it several times in a row at the Marines target
practice facility in Norfolk a couple of years ago.
First time ever for me.

What's the big deal?

Do you know what offhand shooting is?

This is my pistol This is my gun This is for shooting This is for fun.

Wah Ha Ha Ha. Go play with your gun off-hand. WAFA

Yeah, I figured you were clueless. What else is new?

It's not me that's clueless. Ask a veteran what that little rhyme is all
about. WAFA

When I was "of age" for the military, there was nothing happening that
required the homeland to be defended. There was that mess in Vietnam, but
that was a war we perpetuated by taking over from the French, who got
their butts kicked there and left.

Had nothing to do with the USSR, huh?

Harry doesn't think on a global scale, everything is in sound bites.

The Soviet Union was a minor player in the Vietnam War. It supplied a
significant amount of armament and materiel to the North Vietnamese, but
it had a small number of troops in that country. The PRC was a major
player, of course.

Yeah, all of those SA-2's and MIG-15's, MIG-17's and MIG-21's came from
the PRC?

Our insistence on propping up right-wing dictators didn't serve us well
in Cuba, Vietnam, Iran, Panama, Nicaragua or Iraq. The only major
fighting war we've had in a long, long time that made sense was George
H.W. Bush's Gulf War, and only because he had most of the world behind
us. And even that war had unintended bad consequences for us.

Communism has failed every where it has been forced on to the population
at the point of a gun too. I don't see you railing against it.

Everyone who has been trained to shoot in the military knows what
offhand shooting is and has had to shoot offhand as part of qualifying
with the rifle or pistol.

You are not impressing any of us.

None the less, USSR backed. Those were not WW II jap zeros. They were
Russian MiGs with Russian bombs often with Russian or Chinese ground
support.

Agreed here. Barry Goldwater was more sane than anyone thought.

Prolonged engagements in these places is stupid, expensive and ineffective.
Do more missions like Libya where you go in, hit strategic targets with
prejudice and intent to get the leaders and then leave. Fight a terrorist
like a terrorist, hit and run. Forget reclaiming their nations, they have
been at war so long they don't know who the enemy is any more. They just
know killing is power and fear.

Or in at least tell the Saudi's that if they want protection from their
fellow Muslims, here, do it yourself and give them nukes. I am sure they
would sooner or later annihilate each other with a little subtle help.

Nope. Not a clue.

All I know is that they gave me a Glock 9 mm that holds what, 14 or 15
rounds or something like that?
We programmed the target holder for the standard 25 yards, and I fired
away.

I don't aim. The first three or four rounds are wasted walking "up" to
the target, but after that, I was consistently within three rings.

I don't know how I can do it, but I do. We went back several times over
the course of a week and the results were always the same. Even the
Grunts were impressed.

Eisboch

Impossible, can't be done. Especially by someone with a military background
in the Navy. 8)

Harry reads from a DNC supplied script. Any time he tries to ad-lib he
makes a fool of himself

Yep.

Most of Harry's political posts are nothing more than the latest DNC
official "positions" that we hear otherwise via the media constantly, day
by day, hour by hour. I suspect he's on the mailing list.

He just adds the foul language for emphasis.

It would really be refreshing to hear some personal, real time opinions,
supported by facts.

Very little, it had more to do with us, and our preferences for
imperialists, as opposed to nationalists. More importantly, our anti-
communism was allowed to trump our pro-democracy policies. You do
realize, it was Diem that blocked the elections mandated by the Geneva
Accords? Even Eisenhower had said, that if those elections were held, Ho
Chi Minh would have won 80% of the vote.

Hand eye coordination is paramount in handling semi-auto hand guns -
you've got a good eye and your wrist and hand do what you tell them to
do.

Twitch reflex also has something to do with it - the higher the twitch
reflex, the more accurate your grouping will be.

For me, semi-auto handguns are a PIA - I have two, but I much prefer a
revolver - limited rounds, but I'm much more accurate with a revolver
than a semi-auto.

Back when I carried a Navy 1911 .45 - you didn't want to be near the
practice range when I was around. :)

Technically. :)
