111% Fuel Savings for Boat

This link has the details, but I'll summarize.
For those considering power options for the 400 Super Sport,
these are revealing statistics at WOT.
2 x 370-hp Volvo Penta D6 Diesels use 40.6 gph.
2 x 525-hp Mercury Racing EFI Bravo III XR use 85.9 gph.
The Bravos are faster, but some might go with the Volvos because of
their fuel-sipping quality.
111% fuel savings! That's pretty darn impressive.

"111% fuel savings! That's pretty darn impressive."

Did SW Tom do the math? I'm only asking because a fuel savings that high
would seem to violate the laws of physics.

111% would mean the diesels create fuel.

Now a 50% savings...that's impressive.

This is meaningless unless you compare consumption at the same speed.
Diesel is better than gas, of course. If you had a 525 hp diesels they
would drink 57 GPH, two thirds as much as the gas engines. The gas
engines in question seem thirsty, as gas engines go.
