random NG and politics

Just clicked on rec.radio.shortwave which I know nothing about but the
political posts there seriously outnumber topical posts. I'd say this
NG is doing better. I know I bore y'all talkin bout cavin and such
but it beats politics. Could discuss the minute details of rebuilding
my MiniCup sailboat. Most of the time when I learn something useful
bout boats here I dont say anything about it and am sure others are
the same way. Trivial boating posts are more useful than ya might
think cuz I admit to knowing little about power boats.

Well, we would like to hear about the minicup but I know the feeling.
Any boating post we make here will be attacked and mocked by a few,
even the ones who "claim" to be on a high horse but we can give it a
shot. I am still selling yaimkool if anyone is interested, I am taking
offers...

1. You're entitled to think descriptions of your caving adventures are
more interesting than adult political discussion. I think otherwise.
You're interested in caving, and I'm interested in politics. Both
subjects are off-topic here, so it really doesn't matter, right? It's
not as if this is a boating discussion newsgroup.

2. No one is stopping you or anyone else from posting about boats.

What is a mini cup sailboat?

Took in the Naval air museum yesterday. We could only spend 4 hours
there so a return trip is on our agenda. It would take 3 days to examine
all of the wonderful exhibits. Some of the early flying boats were very
interesting. The flying boat that made the first trans Atlantic flight
was on display. It made 3 stops along the way and had to be disassembled
for the return by boat. 7 years later, Lindburg made the first solo, non
stop, crossing and got all the recognition for being first.

Got interested in flying boats a few weeks ago just for historical
reasons. Seems the japs attacked Hawaii a second time with flying
boats but accomplished nothing. Considering the huge martin Mars
flying boats of ww2 era, you wonder if such have modern applications
other than fighting wildfires

A MiniCup is a homebuilt sailboat designed in the 70s. I built my two
using the original directions that really need to be updated for
modern materials. I'll try to get some pics of #1 being dismantled to
deal with rot. When I built them about 5 yrs ago, my son 13 at the
time was skeptical of anything I built but when he sailed her he came
back to shore declaring "That was the most fun he ever had on the
water".

The only photos of a minicup sailboat I ever saw depicted a boat that
sort of looked like a homemade alcort sunfish.
