1. Don't reply. Ever. Just gets them all excited.
2. Filter the poster, or just delete the headers.

Flonkers, besides being pussies, are lazy. They nearly always use the
same handle. Ego thing. Easy to just delete, whether you use a
filter or not. With a newsreader anyway. Don't know about google.
Once you filter the main assholes, and occasionally add new ones, they
simply disappear from view.
I read ASA, and disagree with salty about what killed that group.
Wasn't flonkers, it was the group members themselves.
The flonkers were easily ignored, as I said above.
Probably got old and quit sailing, so they just started farting all
the time, as oldsters are wont to do.

Used to get new blood as the old boaters died off or went on to
something new.
But younger people go right to internet forums now, most not being
aware of usenet, which used to be basically the only game in town.
I suspect this group to die off, but I might be wrong.
The old farts are fighting, and nobody new is coming in with boating
posts.
Tom posted a while back about this, and basically scored a bullseye.
You can't talk about boats all the time, but if you get off the boat
track without being civil, you just stink up the place.
Once in a while I stop by a local big mall's food court with my wife
for a bite to eat.
I've noticed a few times a group of 6-8 old guys at a table, chatting.
Nobody pulls a knife, and I never even hear a voice raised.
If I see them again, I'm going to get a table right next to them and
see if I can hear what they're talking about.
Bet it ain't boats.
OTOH they may be of a kind - religion, politics, VFW, union, etc.
So it's probably different on that score.
Hell, I'm far from shy, so if I do see them I'll just ask them what
keeps them together. Bet it ain't boats.
Anyway, a group is what you want it to be, simple as that.
Post about boats, and you can actually get good info, since there are
still boaters here.
Go off course, and you just reveal what you're made of.
Sometimes that's good, and sometimes that's bad.
So what?
Just felt like saying that.
One more thing. Remember Dunkirk? The boaters came through and
saved the Brit army so they could fight again.
That's the spirit!

Krause is the one who goes out of his way to get crossposters over here.
He'll continue to do so as long as he sees that it disrupts this newsgroup.
Most newsreaders, I'm sure, can filter on threads. And I think that would be
the most effective way to deal with this problem. As for Krause, the best
way to deal with him is to not engage him in any type of discussion, and
quoteing his droppings is about the worst thing you can do to the poor folks
here that have to see them. Bombing his email accounts would be a good way
to show our appreciation of his contributions. Any other suggestions as to
how to annoy the **** out of him without disrupting rec.boats would be most
welcome.

Harry has a short list of the people that annoy him the most. I am proud to
be on that list.

If you followed ASA, it was mostly as a lurker. You didn't
participate. You killed it.

Sure I participated. But like here, not in the type of petty
name-calling threads you enjoy. Mostly

Sure I participated. Just wasn't involved in the petty name-calling
threads. That's probably why you don't remember me.

It was no problem just quickly sorting by name, and deleting the
flonkers. 5-10 seconds. Wasn't much left there of course, but some
still talked about sailing. It's was real easy just deleting Bunyip,
Leyland, and a few others I forgot. Here it's Gunner, Cliff, etc.
Like I said, they are easy. Even when they go to the trouble to
change handles. Takes minimal discernment and a few seconds effort.
Flonkers are pussies. Don't know what that makes those who fear them,
but you can extrapolate.

No, you most certainly did not participate in any meaningful way. How
many sailing threads that garnered responses did you START?

One at least. Maybe more. Not bad considering the crowd there and
that I don't have a boat.

An occasional "me too" response in a thread is not the type of
participation that counts towards keeping a newsgroup vital.

Sorry, I was involved in quite a few threads where I thought my input
might be useful. As I said, they weren't your kind of thread.

You were decidedly part of the problem.

If you want to see me as part of the ASA "problem" be my guest.

I seem to recall that. I've been getting the ASA posts for a few
years. That didn't last long, and even if irritating, they were
easily recognized. Wonder why/how it stopped.
But like I said, I don't let that BS get to me. Unfortunately, most
legit posters don't have the patience, and they leave.
