Daughter just gassed up her Mitsu with premium. Said it's up 40
cents. Heard there's a lot gouging going on in the gulf states.
That CraigCat is looking better.

Why premium?

Car calls for it. She says it doesn't run good on regular.
It's the 3.0L.
She insisted on that car - chick car.
Her money - mostly.

Forgive me if this story is a repeat. Can't remember if I told it here
before. Comes with the territory, if you know what I mean.

My wife is a Lincoln Navigator freak. She's had three (maybe four) of
them. The current one is a 2008 model and it calls for premium fuel,
according to the owner's manual.

Anyway, I was a passenger in it while she drove a few months ago. She
was giving me a ride to or from someplace.
This was back when fuel prices were climbing daily.

As she drove, I noticed that her left directional (blinker) was operating
at a very slow cycle compared to the right directional.
I mentioned to her that she should check the lights in her blinkers
because it appeared that one of them on the left side was probably burned
out.

Her response?

"Oh, is *that* what it is? I noticed it before, but figured it was
because I've been using regular gas instead of premium."

Not a joke.

Well....was it the gas or a burned out bulb? 8)

Eyesbot? He's a dim bulb.

Boats and Gas

well considered thoughts to the readers of rec.boats:

It seems there aren't as many trip reports here as in the past, maybe
because of fuel expenses.
Previous to Wednesday the last time I gassed up my car with regular I
recall paying about $3.85 at the local Mobil which I always use.
Going to the dentist Wednesday I noticed that a Shell station had
regular for $4.14. Surprised me. I stopped at the Mobil and filled
up after the dentist and it was $3.94.
My wife filled up her car at the same place Thursday and paid $4.04.
I'm hearing that something like 50% of refining capacity is where Ike
is about to hit.
Doesn't look too good. Hearing $5.00 gas, and saw some stations have
it over $5.00 in NC.
A sailboat with a small motor or a powerboat that can be pushed with
a weedwhacker motor are starting to look like good options.

In NC, in the last 3 days I have seen 2 boats in the ICW. It appears
there are no trips to report.

Come to think of it, I only saw 2 boats fueling up, I wonder if they
were just stocking up?

There's been a fair amount of launch traffic at the marina/ramp I use,
but I have noticed the double and triple engine outboard boats seem to
be mostly tied up at their slips.

We're heading out today, probably later this morning. Supposed to be hot
as Hades in the 90's later. Not much reason to post a "trip report" here.
