I noticed about 6" of shell growth on my sister's dock pilings in Punta Gorda. A lot of people, including myself, are using plastic "pile wrap". The local dock builders in SWFL know where to get it. It keeps the worms out and reduces the amount of other growth. Can't remember who, but there's a fellow here or on the cruising group who sometimes posts videos of his sailboat rocking like crazy when a big power cruiser speeds by. Think he's on a river. He's using whips to tie off the boat. Not sure this versadock system is suitable to his bottom, but it got me to thinking that the versadock might attenuate wave action. Some of the wake would likely wash over the leading edge of the dock, and the rest might be "smoothed" considerably by the boat-laden dock. I'd like to see how these docks handle wakes and waves. --Vic |

I'd like to see how these docks handle wakes and waves. I think they'd get beat up pretty quickly by large waves, probably resulting in failure of the attachment points. I've only seen them in protected waters. Never underestimate the destructive power of waves. |
