While Fay has been a disaster for some, it has been a blessing for N.
Georgia. Fay bringing drought relief to metro Atlanta The rains forecast for Monday and for the rest of this week have the potential to put a decent dent in Georgia’s drought, a National Weather Service meteorologist predicted Sunday. Forecaster Stephen Konarik said Tropical Storm Fay and its remnants are to thank for this week’s forecast. Experts say up to 10 inches of rain total could fall this week in north Georgia, the source of drinking water for metro Atlanta. “That would put a pretty significant dent in the drought,” Konarik said. “It’s looking the best that it has in quite in while.” Meteorologists predict a 70 percent chance of rain Monday, 80 percent Tuesday and 70 percent Wednesday. Thursday brings a 50 percent chance of rain. |
