The POTUS should also not be elected because they necessarily reflect the highest level of personal moral behavior, based on "acceptable" standards .... (whatever *they* are now-a-days). He/she need not be selected because they are necessarily the smartest candidate either. The POTUS should be elected based on their ability to respect and defend our Flag, Constitution and laws. He/she should be capable of leadership in defending them from external threats and directing the nation's military to do so as required. He/she should be compassionate to the needy and an unbending bad ass to those that want to hurt us. I really don't care if the next POTUS had a divorce, for whatever their personal reasons were.
