Just got word that my daughter has to have an operation on her right
arm Thursday. I don't know the particulars yet, just got a text message because they are still at the doctor's office. I'm bummed, she must be so sad. |

Anyway, because the two bones are both broken on a bevel (think of a rod that is cut in to on a bias), they keep slipping and not fusing. Trouble is, it can't be permanent because it's a growth area. SO, it's either external fixation or another operation after awhile to take the rods, screws, pins, whatever out. It's back to square one for the right arm, I feel so bad for her. Good news, her left is healed so well that he almost took the cast off today, then decided one more week to make sure. |

Best of luck to her for a quick recovery. *That's a tough situation but it will be a memory sooner than you think.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Yeah, that's true. The news is, where the breaks in both bones in her right arm are, is a growth area. Anything they do needs to be temparary. So, it may be pins, screws, plates, external fixation, he really doesn't know until he gets in there. Whatever it is needs to come out after awhile. |

She just got out of surgery, was supposed to last an hour, ended up two and a half. She has plates and screws in her bones, surgeon said she'll be in a lot of pain. a LOT. She was crying in the recovery room because of pain. The doctor says if this doesn't work it's an external fixator. I'm crushed. |

It must be awful, because she's a tough nut. She was supposed to get out after a couple of hours, but because it just didn't go the way it semmed it might, she will stay the night so they can give her IV drugs. According to the surgeon, she did the right arm good, tearing cartilage, muscle and all. |

Any damage around growth plates it going to hard to deal with for her and you. Good luck and give your daughter my best Loogy. Oh, yeah, it just kills me. It's been a few hours, pain meds etc. and still tears running down her cheeks. Thanks. |

Just got back, she's staying the night because of pain, they can manage it better there. I asked the surgeon about the pain, and he said that there was a lot of surgery for an arm done. He didn't realize before of the muscular and cartilage damage done. He said that he's done similar to grown men and women and she is taking it better than a lot of them. She's a tough nut! I watched her when she was on morphine and still hurting so bad tears were running down her cheeks. Bad day for dad, too!!!!!! |
