Default My New, Low Fuel Boating Plan Works!

I sold my 22' C-Dory and the big Silverado V-8 to pull it. I now have
a 15' walk-thru Klamath with a 2 cyl Merc 25 Bigfoot for fishing. I
tow the little boat with a little Chevy HHR. It's a pleasure to stay
(somewhat) ahead of Exxon in this way.

And it works! On May 29 my fishing buddy and I each caught nice, fat
5# rainbows on Camanche Lake here in the Central Valley of California.
And we caught several more smaller trout. We used downriggers, but
also caught trout very near the surface.

That's a very nice set up and it looks pretty comfortable
for the size/weight. I may eventually downsize to something
similar.

That's a 4 stroke motor right? How does it handle trolling?

Thanks for the kind comments.

It is a 4 stroke twin with carb. Merc now has a 25 HP EFI 3 cylinder
that I'd sure like to have - and may some day get.

The Big Foot is ideal for this boat. I troll slowest at about 2 MPH
which is just fine for trout. I like 1 MPH for kokanee and can get
down there by using a small drogue. But I may get a different prop in
the future if it is likely a prop could make that much difference. I
currently am running a 12X29, 2.42:1 - or so it says. This combination
planes in a snap and cruises below full throttle at 20 nicely. Top
speed is about 25 MPH. I can troll all day on mere fumes.
