The 4.3L melody

After sitting since late September (man that seems like a long time ago!),
it was time to fire up the beast, burn off that winterization lub and get
her ready for another season:

Turn your speakers on, of course.

Sounds great!

Why does the prop turn slowly like that when
the engine is in neutral? My dad's 1966 95-hp
Mercury outboard used to do that, and I never
understood why.

If you would jack up the drive tires of a car with manual
transmission, run the engine with the trans. in neutral you'd see the
same effect. There's enough lube on the the gears and shafts to make a
drag on the parts withought anything being engaged. Of course, it
wouldn't be a good saftey practice but you could actually stop the
prop with your foot and hold it with little effort.

But that's still not a wise idea.......

Thanks, feel free to leave a comment. I think it sounds pretty "deep" for a
6 cyl thru hub exhaust system.
