Default WOW!

I get back from a few days in Cabo, and this place becomes a peaceful haven
for discussions about boats and fishing. I notice one person in particular
is missing.... hmmm was that the key? Of course it was... LOL!

Welcome to the new and improved rec.boats. I sure as hell hopes it stays
this way.

Well, of course you've hit the nail on the head, but he DID take his
#1 minion with him!! With the two trouble makers gone, it's much, much
nicer around here, huh?

How was the fishing in Cabo? Need to get down there. We own part of a
property down there, but have not been there for a year.

From all accounts, fishing was great. I didn't get out, since we were just
there for 3 days. It sure as hell was hot though.

There was a big deal about a group of commercial tuna boats fishing with
nets just 2 miles from shore. Apparently, the law says that they aren't to
be any closer than 12 or 15 miles, but the Mexican Navy didn't get involved.
The locals are afraid that the bill fish will get caught up in the nets
while they're chasing the tuna. I suppose the same would happen 15 miles
from shore as well?

If there were 1 miles of Shoreline that was safe from the "kill them
all" nets and long lines then there would be room for breeding and
reproductive biomass. Sustainability is what fishermen and sportsmen
have been about for most of the last 150 years. Sportfishing catch is
so insignificant to the biomass as to be almost a non-impact.
Especially now that the Mexico boats do practice catch and release of
billfish much more often.

I would bet that the commercial boats paid off the Mexican Navy so
that they could make some money near shore. Some big politico has to
turn a blind eye to it for that to happen 2 miles from shore.

Baja Mexico is trying to be Conservation minded to a new higher degree
but the other nefarious influences are still to strong. Sad.

IMHO

It sure seems like that was the case. The sportfish boats claimed that they
radioed and begged the navy to intervene, but nothing happened.
