OT (sort of) Makes you wonder what else they're up to...
Earlier in the Overton's thread, i was comparing pricing of buying a
bow light from Wal-mart or mail order. I don't need either one, but was just noting that Wallies was cheaper priced for the exact same thing that ws available from Overtons. It was mentioned that overtons had a good quality USA built Bimini which i do need and will investigate further. Then I hear about this. Im now a Wal-box fan. Never was, never will be. and this helps me make decisions on where to shop. http://www.switched.com/2008/04/11/w...n-digital-tvs/ |

Even though I'm on Dish, I hooked one up to one of my old TVs. I couldn't believe the quality of the picture I got just using rabbit ears for the local stations. Got a couple of extra signals broadcast by the local stations, also. If I could get my wife weaned off watching the Suns (NBA) and Diamondbacks (MLB), I'd consider dropping the Dish. Tom G. |

You can use a standard TV on cable or Sat. but all stations will be forced to broadcast digital, so you have to have a digital compliant TV or a converter box to pick up over-the-air broadcasting, or at least that's how I understand it. |

This means that the tube TV sets (analogue) will no longer be able to receive a signal unless a digital converter box is attached. Cable subscribers are not effected as they already send the signals digitally. Oh...thanks. I don't even like to look at the cable bill, since I think the prices being charged are outrageous. |

Used to be Invisible Man, Farscape and LEXX, then IM and LEXX were canceled, then Farscape, then nothing until the new Dr. Who was introduced, then BSG - and now they are planning on screwing that up by splitting BSG up into two segments - 11 episodes this time and then the remaining eleven episodes in March of 09. Rumor has it that it may not be until January of 10 because they want to drag out the revelation of the Final One to attract viewership and have nothing original on the books to replace it. Other than that, I only watch when there is a movie I want to rewatch or the occasional "original" production. |

It would be amazing to see an alien that didn't look like a human fish in a plastic suit that spoke english for once. A large part if SciFi's problem was Bonnie Hammer. She just didn't get SciFi. The one thing she did well was green lighting "Farscape", but she turned creative content control to David Kemper and Rockne O'Bannon who went berzerk in the third season which sunk the series. One of the complaints about Hammer was she felt that scifi in general was low brow and thus drove the good productions into the ground and introduced WWE. When SciFi was owned by Vevendi Universal, she pretty much ran the show and damn near killed the channel - there was talk of blending SciFi with USA at one point. Fortunately, NBC bought everything from Vevendi and NBC is very friendly to scifi as a genre. When David Howe was hired as SciFi's General Manager, he displaced Hammer and things have improved, but with the single exception of Dr. Who and BSG, the network has struggled with funding. Rumor has it that funding will be increased in the future for more original projects and series purchases - let's hope so. |

We wouldn't even have the Sci Fi channel if our #2 son hadn't offered to pay for the package it comes in. |
OT (sort of) Makes you wonder what else they're up to...

Yes. except for porn channels, she's got about everything that Dish Network can offer. We got the uppity zillion channel cable package and I watch four of them on a regular basis - History, Discovery, Speed and SciFi. And Red Sox games so I guess it's five. TV sucks. Is it just me, or is SciFi just getting more sucky on their programming. Been that way for years. The only night worth watching is Friday night with Dr. Who backed by BSG. For me...........DIY, the Science Channel, Sports Time Ohio, National Geographic, Encore, HGTV, Discovery, Animal Planet, PBS, A&E, Military Channel, Discovery Home, History Channel. HBO and Starz. ;=_ You need humor and creativity to enjoy SciFi. A lot are lacking in one or both. |
