Had you gone to the right high school, you would have realized they are
not pines. They are triffids.

Sometimes I am very thankful that I am not as well-read as you.

I conserve brain cells.

Conserving for what? Old age? It's here.

Actually, "Day of the Triffids" is one of the best sci-fi novels ever. The
movie made from the book, though, was just plain awful.

For some reason I never cared for or got hooked on sci-fi stuff, books or
movies. The "Twilight Zone" and "Star Trek" was weird enough for me.
Except when I was about 5 or 6. Then, the whole world centered on
"Superman" (George Reeves).

Trus tme - I understand. Some politician's brother-in-law needed a

I grew up in a town where there was an Official Fence Watcher.

Paid I might add.

And usually a relative of the Town Foreman.

We have to get a permit if the tree is 53" in circumference 3' above ground.
No charge for the permit. We have lots of old, nasty Monterey Pines in the
neighborhood. bugs and mishapen. Our city tree guy, looks at it and says
Monterey Pine, heres your permit.

That came from a bad early 50's SciFi book. Been a couple other books with
the same theme. Most bad.
