MS has released a new Windoze Desktop Search 4.0 preview for the current
iterations of its operating systems. Very very very fast and slick,
faster than any similar searcher I have seen. Searches file names and
text within files, among other things.

Free.

Does it have the option of searching *all* files?

After playing around with the Vista search app, I searched
for files that I KNEW were there and Vista came back palms up.

I then notice that you have the option of searching for files in
*all* locations or some such stoopid thing. After clicking on
that option, Vista found the file I knew was there. btw, it was
slooooow as molasses.

Why would I want to search for my car keys only in
the bathroom????? Hell, they might be on the nightstand.

This kind of thing is what really turns me off about Vista. That and
GUI (that doesn't work) designed for people who don't understand computers.
It just makes it that much more irritating for those of us who do grasp the
concept of how a PC works.

db~stupid little smiley face paper clips offering suggestions.....what is that?
That and the "show all files" options.. Why on earth wouldn't I want to
see my files???? OF COURSE I want to see all my files... Does it
make it easier for the layperson to deal with less files????

There are ways to set it up to search everywhere on the computer. As for
not showing all files, I can certainly understand why any computer
administrator would want certain sorts of files to remain untouched by
users.

Didn't like "Clippy," eh? :}

I keep all of my work files organized. I can find any file I need by
my job number. That includes all correspondence cad files, various
analysis files, even my hand calcs that I make PDF's from.

krouse is a moron, the Windows search engines are indexers and always
running.

No big trick to find something fast when you're thrashing the drive all
the time updatng yourself.

And a big WHOOSH! for the idiot known as Wally, working hard to
recapture the trophy as dumbest poster in rec.boats

Right over your head, Waldo.
