Interesting outboard rumor...

Rumor has it that one of the major outboard manufacturers is involved
in the design and development of a direct injected four stroke
outboard based on the GDi automotive model.

The new engine will also incorporate variable timing and exhaust gas
recirculation and as rumor has it, will use some kind of kinky
geometry block/piston design.

Again, only rumor and heard fifth hand less than ten minutes ago.

Do you mean variable valve timing?

Solonoid actived valves? via computer manipulation?

It's pretty sound technology - Navistar (International) has been very
successful with the technology in their truck engine division and from
what I understand, some of the new McCormick tractors used in Europe
are using similar technology licensed from Navistar.

Mazda experimented with it some 25 years ago.

It's actually a good idea. the computer can have the engine perform at
maximum efficiency at any given rpm range and load. Unlike
conventional 4 strokers that the set mechanical cam will only be
efficient [?] in a set RPM range.
