Southern pansies...
Arrived around noon on Saturday - picked up the Ranger Z21 with ETEC
250 and hit the lake. It was great out there running around, checking the lake's topo map against my depth finder and GPS. Did a little fishing and caught a few schoolie stripers - fun on light tackle. Talking to a few locals at the ramp and bait shop and they were all complaining about how cold it was in the morning - 50 degrees. HA!! Pansies. I was out Sunday morning at six am and didn't get off until around 2 - beautiful weather, temps in the 60s (start temp in the low 50s) - unbelievable that I was the only one out there until about 9 am. HA!! Pansies. Fishing wasn't bad at all - smallish largemouth and some schoolie stripers down by the dam. Caught a nice 33 inch striper in about the same place I caught one last summer using Rayz sal****er eel imitation of all things at about 90 feet. Marked a lot of fish around structure, but that was the only taker at that depth. Others were schoolies working blue back herring about five feet below the surface. Anyway, the Ranger is quite the boat. I've ridden and tested my fair share, but never had the chance to fish out of one. I like it a lot - very comfortable, plenty of room for two or more, this one has electronics up the wazoo and of course, the ETEC which really makes the boat sit up and motivate. This is the first time I've had to play with a hydraulic jack plate on a bass boat - that's an experience - almost scary the speeds one can generate. Enjoying the weather immensely. Mrs. Wave is going to have a fight on her hands trying to get me back to CT. :) Heading out now even though it's raining - I can avoid the raindrops. Mrs. Wave and the girls are going shopping. Me? I'm going fishing. |

Sheesh, before you know it Harry will want to move south again. |

Like I care. :) Great day today - man, plenty of striper action and I spent some time crappie fishing - the crappie was unbelievable - non-stop. The wind got up a little this afternoon when I got off the lake - nothing drastic, but some of the locals were running for their lives back to the ramp. Hey - more fish for me. :) |

Was that you I saw out on the lake? I figured it must have been... a southerner has enough sense to wait a couple of hours until it warms up. :-) Seriously, I may have seen you Saturday afternoon. I was on the Bennington tritoon with the 150 hanging off the back. We went out of Jake's. Probably was - I was over that way when I caught the big striper. I did see a Bennington with an abnormally largeish engine on it. :) This is quite the lake - I rode around this morning just to get a sense of size and place. Pretty incredible. |

We've had plenty of rain over the last three months, and the lake is back up to about it's normal winter level. They'll only let it come up another 2-3 feet this summer. I'd sure like to hear the same thing about Falls Lake in NC. I'm about to give up on the idea of moving to Wake Forest. But, I'm glad to hear your lake is back up to par. -- John H |

We went out and played with it while watching GPS speeds. I want one!!! I was forced into it, but it does a lot for the boat. Having said that, I'm not sure how it would effect a smaller engine on a smaller boat. Friend's boat is an Alumacraft 17' with a 135 Merc on it. It does alot of good with that, but I'm thinking that if he had a 70 or under it wouldn't see much difference. We were playing with it at about half throttle and it didn't do much. My boat is lighter than his w/ a 135 Unevinrude. |
