There are posters here who know my name, address and telephone number, several with whom I have have exchanged checks amounting to several hundreds of dollars or more, and several I have met personally. My preferred "correction" for usenet would be for every post to have listed in his/her headers his/her actual name and actual IP. That would not prevent or interfere with the use of nicknames in here, but at the same time would improve behavior and virtually eliminate the anonyous posters who show up here only or mostly to crap. I used to be opposed to moderated newsgroups. Not any more. In most cases, the average Joe Blow has a dynamic IP that changes frequently. In my case, if I use Steve Gibson's (grc.com) reverse DNS it reports an Embarq machine as my IP address. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you'd like to test yours, you can go he https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 My IP doesn't change often, and when it does, it usually is after the internet provider loses signal and the local pool is reassigned. There are ways to hide an IP or go through a server that provides another number, of course, but I don't bother. What for? I'm not posting here anonymously. Why are you posting through two news servers? Nothing nefarious, but I feel no compunction to explain it to the likes of you. So...I do because I can. And so can anyone else. |

Even if its available, how does the average Joe Blow ID someone by their IP. That even assumes they do not go through an anonymizer? I believe without the cooperation of the senders ISP there is no way you can ID any Usenet participant. So, anonymity reigns. |

Harry, You don't post here anonymously because the time you tried you got caught. It was funny to watch you have a conversation with yourself about someone who saw you on the bay in your Lobster Boat, until someone noticed that both you and your sock puppet had the same IP address. I on the other hand have always been me, and I have never tried to fool anyone otherwise. I have a static IP so it is easy to verify who I am. |

The problem is with members acting like 12 year old kids. Stop the personal attacks and the NG will be fine. We both can learn a lesson from that..........perhaps you more than me. Some folks think he's cool. Some don't. My advice is to those that don't. Advice follows: Putting Harry in the trash is like a taking a breath of fresh air.Try it. You might like it. |
