OMC 3.0 Camshaft gear

Found out in rebuilding my OMC 3.0 marine engine that the cam gear is
different from the 2.5 Chev automotive. Automotive cam gears run
around $35 but the OMC part is $200.

Anyone know what the difference is?

Mike

Yes..it says " Marine " on, or near the name of the part....and that
costs 200% more...go figure.

So, are they interchangable in this configuration?

(someone had to say it;)

I guess I set myself up for that one.

Actually I had an automotive gear pressed on the cam....It looked the
same as the old"marine" gear, But it must be slightly larger. When I
tried to install it in the engine, it just wouldn't quite work.
