Don White November 26th 07 05:47 PM

hey Tom.. I'm finally legal!

In this mornings mail, I finally received a 'Canada Certification Label' for
the LoadRite Bandit boat trailer.
I need to fasten this self adhesive label somewhere on the forward part of
the left hand side.
No jail or $2K fines for me after all. That calls for a celebration!

I can't think of any reason why a Canadian would want to move
permanently to the United States.

Unfortunately, a lot of our medical people are attracted by big money (by
Canadian standards).
By the time they're ready to retire, Florida probably looks better than
Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Oh, I do understand retiring to where the sun shines. I wonder if any
Canadians retire to Cuba? I have a couple of friends who retired to

It sure sounds like a government out of control. All you need for a
trailer in Florida is a tag ... any tag will do. I even see trailers
with "lost tag" and some numbers painted on them.
... But SW Florida has always been a "tags optional" place.

Yeah, but if you want to paint that number in Fla, you need to kiss
someones ass for 5 years as a low paid apprentice, then buy a licence;)

If you mean 'license plates'.....that is a provincial responsibility. Here
we have to get new little corner stickers for our license plate at $35.00 +
tax each season. We also have to get a $25.00 safety inspection by an
authorized mechanic.
My big problem was.. the federal gov't treats imported trailers the same as
imported vehicles. Thay don't trust those lax 'merican standards.

Interesting as most of that trailer was built in Canada. Quebec
actually.

What I don't understand is that the CSA standard for trailers are
reciprocal to the UL/DOT standard - I know becasue I checked before I
sold you the rig.

The sad thing is that when I talked to the manufacturer up in Dudley,
he offered to give me a new load sticker with the CSA stamp for the
trailer, but he didn't think you would need it.

Sorry about that.

Huh? Florida is a right to work state. The only people here who have a
union are school teachers. It shows in the FCAT scores

Right to work my ass! My bud has a home and property care service down
there,.lawns, trees, handyman and such...He had to stop replacing
sprinkler heads even if one of the mowers clipped it, had to pay a
plumber. He had to stop painting fences and garages and such, must be
an apprentice for years and get a painting licence. Had to stop using
weed and feed fertilizer, has to send one employee off to a semister
of college to put down over the counter bug killer after mowing a
lawn.. The Green Lawn guys actually follow mowing outfits around and
report them is they use the stuff without a "licence", that's how they
found out about the law, got a cease and desist order for Scotty
GrubEx.. Right to work, please..

Just bad timing mostly. More & more people are flooding across the border
to pay less for vehicles, and either the gov't is overwhelmed, or under
pressure from Canadian distributors & dealers to slow the flow.
Last night, I saw an item on this problem. A Toronto area man had gone down
to the US to purchase a new mini-van, but because it didn't have the new
security add-ons required for Canada, he was told to either deport the van
or have it destroyed.
Here's an item in todays local paper..
