thanks). I'm not a climatologist, so I'm not prepared to state whether
the local drought is influenced by global warming, or if so to what
degree. Neither are most of the folks propagandizing "There ain't no
such thing as global warming, and here's a scientist who ain't afraid
to speak the truth" climatologists. There are scientists on both sides
of the issue, although most of the debate isn't whether or not the
earth is warming but centers around whether man has the capacity in
influence his environment to a degree that alters the course of
nature.

Ever hear of Pacal's Wager? It deals with the belief in God, and
states, (roughly) that if one chooses to believe in God and discovers
in the end that he or she has been wrong and there is no God the risk
is minimal. At worst, the belief may have inspired the person to lead
a socially useful and humanitarian life. If one chooses not to believe
in God and discovers in the end that he or she should have done so,
the risk could be far greater. (Particularly if that newly discovered
God condemns the person to Hell for disbelief).

Global warming may be like Pascal's Wager. If we disregard the Al
Gores and the Rush Limbaughs, we're left with a batch of actual
scientists with appropriate training and credentials. The apparent
majority believe that the earth is warming and that the process is
being accelerated by an alteration of the atmosphere. However, a
strident minority continue to cite evidence that the earth may not be
warming at all, or is doing so at a rate consistent with past climate
trends. We should not be impressed with the fact that more scientists
think the earth is warming, back before the Greeks figures out the
truth most "educated" people thought the earth was probably flat and
it has only been the last few hundred years or so that scientists
could openly discuss the nature of the solar system without fear of
Papal reprisal. Just like the existence of God, intelligent people can
and do debate the topic.

What is the downside if we take more precautions than actually needed
to reduce the amount of carbon gases in the atmosphere? What is the
potential downside if the climatologists who make a strong case for
the reality fo global warming are right, and yet we choose to do
nothing? (The chickens will come home to roost long after most of us
are dead and it will be our kids' problem to deal with, or not,
anyway).

The guy's probably a better fisherman than he is an actor.
The incident was very obviously staged, and the mock "surprise" is
unconvincing. I don't watch his fishing show, but do they normally
have the cameras rolling whenever the pickup truck backs the boat down
the ramp? If not, that's additional evidence that the entire, lame
skit was preplanned.

lakes here that are operated by the power companies, such as Georgia
Power, they are doing well.
