Pivoting cartop carrier?
Anybody remember seeing ads years ago for a device that let you fasten
the stern of a small boat to a short mast attached to the car's bumper, then pick up the bow and rotate it on to the car top? If anybody remembers such a thing, does anybody still make it? My girlfriend's trying to find a way to load a 70-pound rowboat (Walker Bay 8) by herself. DT |

DT If she can lift the stern that high, she could lift it into the bars of a Thule rack. Get a set that's wider than recommended for the car, so there's less chance of missing the target when she drops the stern onto the ends of the bars. After that, the loading process is almost the same. But, take a look at www.cabelas.com for that invention you mentioned. I'll bet they have it. |

DT The more I think about this, the less sense it makes. OK: She's got the stern on the mast, then she lifts the bow off the ground to pivot it around, and places it on the roof. I assume there's be a roof rack. Now what? Grab the stern off the mast and try to lean over the trunk to push the whole thing forward? Or, step around to the side of the car holding the stern, and push diagonally or whatever? |

The Car A Boat rig works really well and is the simplest of all. Over 40
years ago, I used one on my '57 El Camino to haul a 14 ft. aluminum boat. Easy as pie for one person. "WaIIy" wrote in message ...
