A couple of weeks ago it was Harry and John H's general vicinity that
needed a bit of sprucing up. Now it looks like Calif Bill has some
careless neighbors as well.

SACRAMENTO (AP) - The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department fears the
county is becoming a dumping ground for abandoned boats.

Among them is a paddle boat that was used in the John Wayne movie
"Blood Alley" 50 years ago. The boat later ferried tourists as the
"Spirit of Sacramento." But now it is a rusted, half-sunken wreck on
the Sacramento River.

Sheriff's Sergeant Scott Maberry says many owners abandon their boats
rather than pay tens of thousands of dollars to dispose of them
properly.

The sheriff's department is drafting a county ordinance making it
illegal to abandon a boat in a public waterway.

Last week we were talking about trash in the Anacostia River. Now there's
even more.
