Troubleshooting Rotax Jet Ski Engine -- Oil in Exhaust
It's a '94 Sea Doo XP--has given years of reliable
service. If I read the shop manual correctly, the engine is a Rotax 657. The ignition failed and I fixed that with a new CD module. I started the engine briefly to see if it charged properly since I'd been in the electric module. I ran it maybe 15 sec with no water. I've done this before. Lots of smoke. There was raw 2 cycle oil (the kind I use is black) coming out the water exhaust port next to the jet drive. I also detected a drop of the oil on the fitting where the exhaust manifold drain connects--it goes to the water exhaust port. Before I put the plugs in--while I was checking to see that they sparked, while cranking--I noticed there was some oil coming out the plug hole. It looked diluted at least. Have I hopelessly busted this thing somehow?? Is there a better forum to ask this Q? Bill Hale Boyd Lake Loveland CO |
