We had a similar situation with Florida Gulf University. They tried to back up and say they meant Gulf Coast but it will always be "FuG U" to us. LOL! |

Multibillionaire Paul Allen used a number of shell corporations to buy a huge percentage of the property between downtown Seattle and the south end of Lake Union. He offered to five the property, worth (at that time) many hundreds of millions of dollars to the City of Seattle if the voters would agree to build an urban village/park to be called "The Commons" in that area. The voters didn't want to approve the associated taxes, so the idea died and Paul Allen kept all of the property. Next thing, lo and behold, the City is building a streetcar line right through the middle of Paul Allen's real estate holdings to connect downtown Seattle to So. Lake Union. Commercial and apartment properties near downtown Seattle have basically close to tripled in value in the last 4-5 years and is still going up nicely, and this dedicated special transit system won't hurt Paul Allen's investment a bit. Yes, there are docks at South Lake Union, but most of the moorage there is associated with various brokerages. More of the public moorage is located along the west side of the lake and along the ship canal. |
