SWS - You Were Right

Just wanted to tell you, you were right. Awhile back I posted a question
about jackplates and the setbacks. Well, I had sort of reluctantly
agreed with the rigger at the marina and they put on new jackplate with
a 4 inch setback. The original was was 8 or 10, I do not have it, nor
did I measure it prior to removal.

After getting the boat back, and right way I noticed a significant drop
in performance. At the same RPM, and fuel consumption (via Yamaha fuel
management gauge), I was 6-8 miles per hour slower. During all this, in
the context of another warranty related item, the manufacturer decided
to cover the jackplate under the warranty.

Just got the boat back, with a new 10-inch jackplate and performance is
back to what it was originally. I recently learned more about jackplate
function and theory than I had previously considered. There's a bit more
to it them simply raising the motor up and down. ;)

Thanx again for your help and advice.

Glad everything worked out for you.

Jackplates are fun to work with, but they can have some interesting
and completely unintended side effects if they aren't right.

OK, ok, I'll try not to get too carried away praising your abilities.
Lest you then go get a big head and start fixin everyone's problems.

Besides, how would Mrs SW handle you being right, all the time, about
everything? ;)

Cheers & thanx again!

When it comes around to Mrs. Wave's opinion, I'm never right.

I'm sure you know how that goes. :)

When were you ever right about anything? You're the one who bought that
French technology eTec, for pete's sake. Makes your opinions highly
suspect. Mrs. Wave is spot on. :}

Much like Chuck, I am never wrong.

Mistaken, misguided, confused, misinformed, decieved and or deluded,
but never wrong.

I am four square behind French technology.

Mrs. Wave's opinion is based on experience. :)

I briefly chatted with the operator of the only eTec in my area...the
one on the cop Whaler. All they seem to do is chase fishermen who get
too close to a nearby oyster bed about 100 yards offshore. I guess with
an eTec, they want to be able to walk to shore once the motor craps out.

I was a bit nervous buying something at the tail end of it's product
lifecycle (2005 re 2 stroke carburated outboards)
Now I see that both Mecury & Yamaha still provide these 'classic' motors.

Other than the fact that they "pollute" more than the more modern
engines, there's nothing wrong with these "old tech" two strokes. They
are sturdy and with decent care will last for many, many years. The only
problem I ever had with my low-tech Mercs was with the stators, but Merc
admitted to a bad supplier and replaced the ones that went teats up on me.
