I recall when people got away with this sort of thing and received a sentence that was equivalent to nothing. When I was living on Long Island, I was acquainted with a bunch of Nassau County highway cops because the store where I worked did CB radio work for them. One of the cops was writing a ticket on the LIE one night when some drunk hit him. Somehow, the guy's bumper snagged the cop's belt, dragging him for about a mile. The belt finally broke, leaving the cop on the side of the road. A few CBers followed the drunk off the highway and onto a side road. For some reason, they didn't kill him. The funeral was definitely a closed casket affair. The drunk got 6 months of community service, working in an emergency room, and had his license revoked. Some justice. |
