Never, ever trust NOAHA weather radio reports on wave heights. ;-) We are ready to shift from the swimming to fishing mode..........yellow perch style. We have some white perch in the rivers that empty into the Bay around here at times, but no relation to your perch. Ours are cousins of striped bass. Decent ones are a pound to a pound and a quarter. Going to get out tomorrow, too, I hope. |

I never owned a deep vee 21 footer before, and this one is that, plus it is fairly heavy (the boat alone is just under 3000 pounds), so it really rides well. I had two smaller SeaPros and while they were competent boats, they simply did not weigh enough to bang down the chop. I like the completely open space in front of the center console. Flat floor for six feet right up to the bow. Great for fly fishing or casting, or just setting up a recliner. Fuel burn is way down there, too, which pleases me. Got one item for the 20-hour check. The steering in one direction is too stiff, and I had it checked by the dealer. They ordered a replacement helm for me, no questions asked. |

Sissy. ;-) I have been stuck with lighting harness problems on the Blazer for two days but I haven a temporary setup hooked up for the rest of the season. Don't know exactly what happened yet, I am tearing through the harness looking for a short or break somewhere. Anyway, I am going to take a run ahead of the storm to the mouth of the CT River tonight. Should actually be a nice night, looks like overcast with light winds, it'll do.. Been jonesin' for a trip all week, I just can't wait any longer;) I want biieeeeeeeg fishies !! |

You are off base with that comment Harry. He has normally avoided getting involved in flame wars. Both of you need to stop it as both of you have a lot to offer to this NG. I'm merely commenting on WayneBoy's double standard, the one that says, "Don't do as I do, do as I say." That puts him in the Herring-Reggie category. |

Well I am finally recovered from the other night. Stayed out till about 2 am caught a great incoming tide and its pass. There was little wind, no traffic to speak of, and the water was like glass. Hit the water about 6 pm with all my toys and my dog. I like anchor fishing with my little guitar, some beers, and the other night, a little 2" color sony TV, I usually keep it for weather updates but that night, there was football on broadcast tv locally. The evening started slow and after a drift I got on to a nice bluefish. Dragged him on board, 24 inches, 7-8 lbs?? Decided to move down river to my secret spot (that I tell everyone) and settle in. It always happens and tonight is was just funny, After a while I was standing in the boat and decided to fix a wedgie;) As soon as I unbuckeled my belt and started putting in my shirt, zzzziiiiiiiiipppp, there went the line. I hooked up and started reeling, a few minutes later I am standing there with a frekin' shark and my pants around my ankles. This was a pretty big shark as sandsharks go, he measured in at 42". I got a little bad video to post later. A little while later, another shark, almost the same size but not the same one as I tore the other ones mouth pretty good taking out the hook, I hoped sharks were not going to ruin my night, and thought about leaving. Just about then zzziiiiiiipppp again, another bluefish, this was turning out to be a pretty good night. All togther I probably got 7 blues and two sharks and the water was just perfect. Got my last fish about 1 am and called it a trip. I do hate living way up here inland, almost an hour to get to the water, if I was back home I would be fishing every evening, I do miss it. Anyway, a couple of cups of coffee in middletown and home. Cleand the fish yesterday and did not notice while at the water but one of the fish I kept for a neighbor was a big one. Measured in at 36 inches clean and 13.5 pounds. I did not remember it being that big when I pulled it in. My arms and lower back still hurt from the trip, I love it... Happy fishin' guys. |

What do you do with the blues you catch to eat? It really depends on who is getting them. I don't usually keep blues unless they are gut hooked or I have someone who wants them, For me, I don't really care much for them. So, usually I bleed them and put em on ice till I get home. One I filletted for me and dad, I take the red meat out too. I will soak it in OJ and have not decided if I am going to bake it, or make a kind of asian style of sweet and sour noodle or egg drop and fish stew.. ummm. Number two, I filett and leave the red for my father in law, he eats all of it, the third I save for my neighbor who takes them whole and cleans them herself, I think she just bakes them or frys em'. I fillet them as soon as I get home, cut out and toss the "red" parts into the ground as fertilizer, and put the remaining fillets in a baggie with lemon juice in the refrigerator over night. Then, the next day, I either fry up or bake the fillets. When the fishing was slow in St. Augustine, I'd head outside the inlet, go north about a mile, drift fish about a half mile offshore, and catch endless numbers of small sharks mixed with blues and the occasional whiting. Whiting fillets were my favorites, next to flounder. Ever gig for flounder? I haven't, but I have friends who do down south. I'm afraid I'd "gig" my own foot Not familiar with flounder gigging, but I did have one come up last week, holding on to a chunk of bunker! Biggest flounder I ever saw, must have been 26 inches or more, and thick too. Thought I had a log on or something, never expected to see a flounder holding a piece of fish that big. Anyway, good fishing to you all, I am planning another trip soon, maybe I will get Tom down there, but I don't know if he could stand "anchor" fishing ;) I'll spare him the lawn chairs. |
