Speaking of transom problems...

These are the two things that annoy the hell out of me on my Ranger
and - dare I say it - are a lousy design.

That is the "self-drain" in the stern. It normally works well, but
the holes aren't representative of the size of the drain - the drain
itself is smaller than the holes by 1/4". There is also a ball in
there that blocks incoming water and it can get stuck - which means
you have to use your hand to create some suction to unstick the ball
in the tube. Terrible design.

This is the bilge access hatch.

Yep - located in the stern of the boat and not accessible from inside
the boat readily because the hatch cover pulls up towards the bow and
not away from it. Not to mention the engine controls in the way of
the cover.

It also leaks because it's not sealed - in a stern sea, you can ship
water though it although it's not that serious - most of the time the
bilge pump can handle it fine.

The most annoying this about this hatch is driving on the trailer. The
stern will bury itself on some ramps and the hatch leaks sufficiently
that I can take aboard three, four gallons of water. Kind of annoying.

Both of these are subject to modification this winter when I do some
custom work on the boat.
