1997 Volvo Penta 3.0GS - main V belt
I have a 1997 Regal with a Volvo Penta 3.0 GS. The v belt that
connects from the crankshaft pulley to the power steering pulley and another pulley broke. It appears that the only way to replace this belt is to remove the front engine mount. Is there another way to install this belt? |

Don't know that model but I know on other front mount 3.0s that is true.
Use a board on the bottom of the boat under a bottle jack. "Jay" wrote in message ups.com... I have a 1997 Regal with a Volvo Penta 3.0 GS. And when you install the new belt, leave a 2nd one installed inside the mount. |

I wished Volvo used your proactiveness. :-) I can't remember if the '97 Volvo 3.0L front mount had a removable piece like the same engines used in the MercCruiser, OMC's, and Cobra drives. All you had to do was remove the long horizontal bolts from the port side and the notched mount piece would fall away. You then had access to install a new belt. All you had to do then is reinstall the piece and torque the 2 bolts. Sometimes a 2 x 4 was needed to move the motor slightly if the rear mounts were sagging, to line up the bolts.
