Starter defies physics?

I have a '62 merc 1000, and have had starter/ignition probs. I cleaned
the starter up, and she spins strong. The problem is, its spinning
the wrong way. The wiring is correctly hooked up, and I'm at a loss.
Any ideas would be appreciated immensely!!!!!!

I think you re assembled it with the magnet body upside down..

Take it abck apart, and re assemble "backwards"

That should put the polarity back in order for correct rotation.

hmmm, I didn't read your post right.

1962? That would probably be an old Delco or Prestolite starter with
copper fields.

If that be the case then you probably have the brush's a quarter turn
off. that would reverse the polarity.

It's the aliens man - the aliens.

To fix it, you have to take it to Rosewell, NM, put it in the desesrt
and leave it for a day.

The aliens will take care of it.

And if that doesn't work, it's probably what Tim said - I've had that
happen on a tractor starter a time or two. :)

Jeez...youse guys am stoopid. At the battery, reverse the red & black
cables. That'll solve the starter problem. Then, rewire everything else on
the boat, starting with el baño, if the toilet is an electric one.

We are soooo much help to this poor man. He's probably sitting in a
corner flipping his lips with his finger and making coo-coo sounds.
